    The Basics

    What is JobShare Partner?

    JobShare Partner provides a meeting place for job share seekers to come together and find a suitable person with whom they could share a job. The job is usually a full time position but one which two competent and skilled people could share cohesively.

    Who is JobShare Partner for?

    JobShare Partner is for anyone looking to enter into a job sharing work-arrangement but need a compatible partner to do so. Typically, people who use JobShare Partner fall into one of three categories:

      • a)      They are looking for a job sharing partner for new a role in a new company ;
      • b)      They are looking for a job sharing partner for a new role in the company they already work at;
      • c)       They currently work full time in a role but want to reduce their hours by turning the role into a job sharing arrangement.

    How much does JobShare Partner cost?

    Signing up to JobShare Partner costs $80 (or less if you get in early… see Free signup for first 1,000 members below) This signup fee will give you unrestricted access to the site for a period of one year.

    Are there pay-per-match fees or any other ongoing charges?

    No – all you’ll pay is the upfront $80 signup fee. This signup fee will give you unrestricted access to the site for a period of one year.

    Free signup for the first 1,000 members

    If you’re lucky enough to get in early, we’re offering our first 1,000 members free signup – no strings attached!
    Why? The whole concept of JobShare Partner relies on there being a diverse membership base of high quality job seekers. While we’re still growing, we don’t think it’s fair to take people’s money until we can be sure that our service delivers exceptional value.

    How it works

    How do I connect with another JobShare Partner member?

    It’s easy! Once you’ve become a member, you will be able to search through other members’ profiles (filtering on industry, location, wage, etc) until you find someone that might be a compatible job sharing partner. You can indicate your interest in starting a conversation with this person by clicking the connect button on their profile. That member will then receive a notification that you would like to connect. This notification will prompt them to have a look at your own profile and they may decide to also click connect if they are interested in speaking to you. It is only when both members have ‘connected’ will they be able to message each other using JobShare Partner’s internal messaging system.

    Will any of my personal contact details be visible to other members?

    No – you choose if and when you share any personal contact details with another member. When you connect with another job share seeker, you will be able to message each other over JobShare Partner’s internal messaging system. Our messaging system provides the perfect means for discussing potential job sharing roles, the compatibility of your skill sets or just getting to know each other a bit better. If things are looking positive, you may choose to exchange emails or phone numbers to continue the conversation away from the site.

    What happens if I can’t find a compatible partner?

    There’s a (decreasing) chance that when you log on, you will be unable to find a person of similar experience and in the same industry and location as yourself. Our advice in this situation is that you set up a good quality profile for yourself, and then revisit the site regularly.

    Not only are there new JobShare Members joining every day, but there are also existing members that are either moving to a new location or are up-skilling to move into a new industry. There is also a surprising number of people with skill sets that are transferable across multiple industries, meaning that while they might not be appearing in your industry search, it doesn’t mean that they are not open to opportunities your industry.

    Yes, but how do magnets work?

    Black magic – it’s the only explanation that makes sense.

    Job Sharing Positions

    Will JobShare Partner find me a job sharing position?

    No – we are not recruitment consultants. Our site matches people to people, not people to jobs. We provide a platform for people who are interested in working in a job sharing arrangement to meet and find a compatible job sharing partner. It is the responsibility of the people in the partnership to find and apply for the positions they are interested in.

    I’ve found a position that I’m interested in applying for, but it’s classified as ‘full time’ and doesn’t mention whether they will accept job sharing candidates. Can I still apply?

    We would recommend that you do. While many of the larger companies in Australia (particularly the multi-nationals) now explicitly state whether a position is compatible with job sharing or not, a lot of the smaller employers don’t think to mention it. Often this is not because they are unwilling to consider job sharing applicants, it is simply because they haven’t considered this working arrangement when writing the job advert.

    A compelling job sharing application (check out the templates in our Resources section), will usually alleviate any concerns the employer might have. In many cases, a job share arrangement is an even better solution for the employer and solves some problems for them such as absenteeism and workload spikes.

    Should I treat a job sharing job application differently to a normal job application?

    Yes, you should. While employer awareness of job sharing has increased dramatically over the past few years (and is continuing to improve), there are still some employers who are unfamiliar with the benefits of this arrangement. For this reason, part of your application will need to “educate” an employer on what job sharing is and how it works. Just as importantly, your application needs to present a business case on why a job sharing partnership can represent the same, if not more, value to an employer than an individual full time applicant.

    To assist you in building such an application, there is an extensive library of application templates and ‘how-to’ guides available to members in the JobShare Partner Resources section. These easy to use resources will ensure that you can build the most compelling job sharing application possible.
